The results that I found when searching for educational blogs were pretty much the same no matter what search engine I used. I searched it on Google, Ask Jeeves, and Yahoo. The main websites popped up on all three search engines. The reason that these websites pop up first is because they are the most used of all educational blogs and the most useful for the audiences that would search for them.
The three that I really liked when I was researching I would love to use in my classroom. One teacher has the students who go on vacation during the year write a Blog of the things that they see and do on vacation. This is would be great resource for the students to learn while they are on vacation. I also saw a Blog with a newsletter link for parents. Blogs can be a good resource for families of the students so they can be informed in what is going on. The last thing I noticed were Blog websites for teachers. Different teachers around the country and world can share the stuff they are doing in their classrooms and give one another ideas.
RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as Blog entries and news headlines or podcasts. RSS can be read by using aggregators, which bring all the new information and new ideas in a single location for easy viewing for the student. This will be great because student can get online and get any new info I post or the students post. Also helps with upcoming homework research etc.
Blogging and RSS will have a lot of impact on the classroom making it much more interactive and helpful for the students. It will give the students more guidance with their learning. Some student’s work really well with technology and it will really motivate them to learn and be driven inside and outside the classroom.
One pro would be that the students would feel very involved in their learning. Also its easy for teachers to grade blogs because its easy access online and organized. One con would be the students who do not do well with technology and having to adapt the lesson and assignment for them. Another con would be technology is not always reliable and has room to fail.
