Engaging Students with Concept Mapping

The idea of concept mapping can be very helpful for all subjects and grade levels in school. I want to teach English in high school and concept mapping will be a great tool when making transitions between books. A lot of the books students read in high school have connections and relate to one another. Also concept mapping will be great for brainstorming for papers and projects. Many students have a hard time keeping their ideas organized and the skill on concept mapping will help them out with organization and structure.
I found 3 innovative ideas that concept mapping will help in the classroom. Concept mapping will be nice for visual learners. Student may understand a concept better when they see it laid out. Also the students can do concept mapping online so it is very interactive and it is easy to use. Lastly the students will have a better understanding of outlining something before they do it. Planning is positive skill that will help the students through out their lives.
Students can use concept mapping to demonstrate the way they understand a concept or topic I have been teaching in many ways. The most important way they can use it to map out the way they were thinking. They can organize their thought process and show me the way they made connections. This will help visual learners and allow me to see the progress they made
